Serious game aimed at teenagers and young adults. Focusing on Economic Growth, Politics, Climate change and how they affect each other.
My Bachelor Thesis investigated the usage of Serious Games as supplementary means in the german school system. I wanted to find out if students specifically in higher grades would react positively to something different than strict normal lessons where the teacher is just talking all the time. Additionally I wanted to see if such a game can be designed to make the players more interested in topics that are usually seen as complicated or not appealing. That is why the game called "GLOBAL" is focusing on Politics, Economy and Climate.
"GLOBAL" was designed as a boardgame since I wanted to make the game playable during lessons and not need constant access to a digital device. It was also made physical to strengthen the social component between students. During developement "GLOBAL" still received a digital version on Tabletop Simulator, to make testing new features and assets easier.
A finished prototype was made and turned in for grading. My examiner was Prof. Dr. Linda Breitlauch, who gave the whole project the best possible grade of 1,0. She sees very high potential in the game prototype and encourages further developement and fine tuning. I plan to continue working on this game in my free time with the goal of publishing it in the future.
